Awhile back I posted about a 2011 resolution to NOT buy items at full price. 40 days into the year, and so far I am abiding by the rule. Well ... I might have made one amendment. Any item under $10 is ok. For example: pair of black leggings from Target for $6, a roll of duct tape for the holes in my rain boots (more on this in a moment) $7 and 3M hooks for hanging towels in my bathroom, $4.50 each.
Biggest purchase yet was a pair of rain boots. Chicago winters are cold -- everyone knows that. But the streets get really dirty post-storm. As the snow melts a bit and the plow trucks make their way through the streets, disgusting gray slush is EVERYWHERE. Snow boots like Uggs might keep the feet warm, but they will be stained and wet within minutes. Waterproof boots are an absolute must-have.
I had a pair of Sperry rain boots which ripped along the sole (figured that out mid-step into a nasty slush puddle.) So I bought a pair of black Chooka boots from Macy's back in November. They were a crocodile texture and ripped along the pattern seams (again, found out mid-step into nasty slush puddle.) I was so irritated that the relatively new boots (purchased for at least $80) were already showing such wear and tear that I wore black duct tape on them for a good three weeks. Unfortunately, duct tape doesn't always stick when wet, so I gave in and ordered yet ANOTHER pair of rain boots from Zappos.

They arrived last night and my feet were dry and warm on my way to work this morning. And look -- I abided by my rule!
Third time's the charm? Gosh, I hope so!
