I am hosting our weekly girls dinner tomorrow night (every Monday, rotating hosts) and I plan to order delivery (very fine Italian delivery, but delivery nonetheless). So I figured I should do something authentic for the girls to see. I was shopping at Dominik's and they were selling dozen rose bunches for only $10. Into the cart they went!
I love light pink roses -- so girly.
But I think my favorite it was I call a "sunset" rose. The colors are simply magnificent.
I checked to be sure they were good roses by squeezing the base of the flower between two fingers. Always pick roses that have the strongest base. The less it gives, the younger the flower is and the longer it'll last in the arrangement.
Essie polish "Mink Muffs" on my nails, if anyone was wondering ;) I indulged this morning.
Step number one when I got home: remove the leaves, thorns and this HIDEOUS green-dyed baby's breath. Did they simple have this laying around after St. Patty's Day? I mean, come on folks! Ugh, so ugly.
Second step was selecting three different vases -- I always split up an arrangement to make multiple arrangements, better to spread out the beauty!
After cutting the stems at an angle and seperating the roses, I created three arrangments.
The Patron bottle was embellished by a good friend of mine, Lindsey Kessler, as a gift for last year's Valentine's Day. The small bud vase is an old diffuser bottle from Pottery Barn -- the label is still on. One went behind the sink (definitely will make cleaning those dishes more pleasant!); one to the bathroom shelf; one to brighten up the bookshelf.
So beautiful. Isn't nature amazing?
Oh and here is a close up of the photo of my sister, dad and me that's behind the sink. This was taken when I was probably 5 or 6 and Emily was 10 or 11. We're in the Chesapeake Bay off the back of our boat -- Mom took the photo. I love this photo so much!
